A shooting took place early Tuesday in the vicinity of 1st Avenue and Tabor Boulevard. No one was injured, but several shots struck a residence.

Police were notified of the gunfire at about 3:15 a.m. Patrols attended the area immediately and found nothing suspicious, but they were back shortly after.

"When daylight arrived, police received another call advising that bullet holes were located on the outside of a house," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass.

Several bullets were discovered lodged in the home at 4202 1st Avenue.

Five went through the picture window facing the street and others hit the frame of the residence -- one half of a duplex.

Hours were spent by investigators gathering the clues they provided. The forensic identification unit and the police dog service were called in to aid general duty members.

"At this point of the investigation it appears that this was a targeted, drug related incident," Douglass said.

"Although there is the likelihood this is organized crime or gang related, the use of guns is the only indicator. A number of rounds aimed at half a duplex in a fairly close grouping is part of the reason we think it was a targeted attack."

Douglass said no stray bullets could be found in the other half of the duplex, and "thankfully the area behind is a park," so no residents were endangered in the path of bullets that may have missed.

Still, he said, any time a firearm is discharged inside a city there is the possibility of bystanders being hit.

"We are trying to determine who or what the target was," said Douglass. "We have a pretty good idea who lives there. The motive is not necessarily known, but we are conducting many interviews and we have clues from the scene."

Neighbours in the area said they had concerns about the activities at that particular address, but no one had any ideas who might have opened fired in their neighbourhood.

The investigation is ongoing and police hope for any information the public might have to help located the shooter or shooters.
