The message this morning (Jan. 24) is to slow down on wintery roads and drive to the conditions, not the speed limit.
Drive B.C. has issued travel advisories for Highways 97 and 16 in and out of Prince George due to freezing rain that’s led to slick, icy roads in the region.
Highway 97 north is of main concern after an accident took place more than 20 km away from the city, which is now down to single-ane alternating traffic as a result.
Vehicle recovery is taking place by crews between Edric and Mitchell Roads.
Black ice is also a possibility for a 150 km stretch of Highway 97 from Prince George to the Highway 39-Mackenzie Junction thanks to freezing rain.
Slippery sections on all our major routes. Please slow down and drive to the conditions. Check @DriveBC and #knowbeforeyougo #BCHwy16 #BCHwy97 #BCHwy27 #BCHwy39 and #BCHwy5 pic.twitter.com/aDVPN5LhQI

Highway 16 east has also been issued an advisory as a result of the same freezing rain conditions from Prince George to about 50 km west of McBride.
Single-lane alternating traffic is also a result of a morning vehicle incident now in recovery mode Dome Creek Road and Walker Creek Forest Service Road, located nearly 60 km east of Purden Lake.
You can check Drive B.C.’s website for up-to-date information on road conditions across the province.
Fortunately, there are now weather alerts by Environment Canada currently in effect for northern B.C. regions.
Fog is expected in the #Cariboo. Make sure you are seen from behind. Turn on your headlights to light up your taillights when driving in fog. https://t.co/JcvJx9Y8SL #ShiftIntoWinter #100MileHouse #WilliamsLake pic.twitter.com/oB6X0gGDwz
