The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is starting a wildfire risk reduction project at Pilot Mountain. BCWS plans to burn 40 piles of wood debris at the Pilot Mountain Wildfire Risk Reduction site.

Staff from the BC Wildfire Service will carefully prepare, control and monitor these fires. Smoke may be visible to surrounding communities and along Highway 97 north.

These burns are part of an ongoing fuel management treatment project, in partnership with the Prince George Natural Resource District, to promote forest health and reduce the risk of wildfires in the area.

The exact timing of the burns will depend on-site, weather, venting, and snow conditions, however, the project is expected to start Monday (March 21).

Burning will proceed only if conditions are suitable and allow smoke to dissipate.
