Snowfall warning in effect, cold weekend ahead for Prince George

The windchill will see overnight temperatures drop into the minus 30s

​A snowfall warning in effect for Prince George, with about 10 centimetres expected.

"A frontal system moving through the interior will give snow today," Environment Canada stated Friday, Jan. 31. "Total snowfall amounts of about 10 cm is expected by this evening. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions."

The weather forecast for the weekend has changed slightly since earlier in the week.

Saturday will see a mix of sun and cloud with a 40 per cent chance of snow. The daytime high will be -17C (feeling like -26C with the wind chill) with an overnight low of -23C (feeling like -33C). Winds from the north will come in at 16 kilometres per hour with gusts up to 24 kph.

For Sunday, expect clouds with a daytime high of -18C (feeling like -25C) and a nighttime low of -27C (feeling like -35C). Winds will be 16 kph from the north, gusting to 24 kph.

No relief Monday: Sunny with a high of -19C again (feeling like -24C), winds 9 kph (gusting to 14 kph) and a nighttime low of -29C (feeling -36C).

Expect similar conditions Monday and Tuesday before temperatures start to rise slightly over the rest of the week.
