One of Prince George’s most talented athletes was given special recognition at the Monday's council meeting (April 8).
Linda Renner, also known as 'Peaches,' won two gold medals and one silver at the Special Olympics World Games held in Abu Dhabi in March.Renner took home the top prize in the women’s singles 10-pin bowling event, as well as the doubles competition, and settled for second in the team events.
“I would like to start by celebrating success. It is my pleasure to introduce Ms. Linda Renner who myself and many know as Peaches,” said Acting Mayor Kyle Sampson, who was filling-in for Mayor Lyn Hall.
“On behalf of my council colleagues and all of us here with the city of Prince George, I’d like to congratulate Peaches on winning three medals at the Special Olympics World Games,” said Sampson.
“Your accomplishments bring so much pride to our community and speak volumes about your personal commitment to your sport. I also want to add your willingness to share your medals throughout your tour of our community is a wonderful way for all of us to have the opportunity to celebrate alongside you since your return home.”
Renner was the only Prince George Special Olympics athlete selected to represent her country at the games.
