More than 300 people went to hear Trevor Linden speak during the Y Champions Hockey Weekend banquet and $20,000 was raised for YMCA programs during the event that took place Oct. 1 and 2.

Linden shared his knowledge about leadership and volunteering as well as talking about his days in the NHL,while the next day there were 70 hockey players hitting the ice during a friendly competition.

Programs which will benefit from the funds raise include Camp Kanannaq, Simon Fraser Lodge and Youth Around Prince (YAP).

"Many of the families in our programs come from under-privileged backgrounds and the YMCA does not turn anyone away due to financial challenges, said Mark Miller, CEO. "With the generous financial support of Prince George businesses and residents we can ensure our resources go as far as possible to those who need it the most."

Next year's event will take place Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
