Although it's outside the Prince George Fire Centre region in the Cariboo Fire Centre, the Pelican Lake fire complex is just 75 kilometres southwest of Prince George as the crow flies.

There are 123 fires burning in the Cariboo, south of Prince George. The fires have been divided into four complexes, each made up of several fires.

The Pelican Lake fire complex covers nearly 10,000 hectares. It consists of two main fires, as well as a few smaller fires. The two main fires are 2,500 hectares and 7,000 hectares each.

According to Cariboo fire centre officials, each of the main fires is about 20 per cent contained.

Dozens of firefighters are working on the lightning-caused fires, supported by helicopters and heavy equipment.

Pelican Lake is 23 kilometres north of the community of Nazko. The area is under an evacuation order.

There are also road closures within the vicinity of these fires. The B.C. Forest Service is asking the public to avoid traveling on these roads and to voluntarily restrict activities in these areas.
