How would you like our area and history to be represented in a museum?

That’s what the Royal B.C. Museum in Victoria wants to know.

Even if you have never been to the Victoria facility yourself, you are invited to attend a community meeting and share your ideas.

The museum is looking to modernize and is consulting with Indigenous peoples and residents throughout B.C., including Prince George, to hear their views about what they expect a modernized museum experience to be.

The consultation is also seeking feedback about how the museum could most effectively tell stories of B.C.’s community and how the museum can collaborate most productively with communities around the province.

The community meeting for the northeast-central region of the province will take place in Prince George, at the Native Friendship Centre (1600 Third Ave) in the Power of Friendship Hall, on Saturday, May 11 between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.

The Royal B.C. Museum holds the world's largest collection of B.C. heritage and offers visitors the chance to explore the province's social and environmental history and discover the events and people that have shaped the province.

The provincial government says it wants to modernize the Royal B.C. Museum to make sure it protects B.C.'s natural and human history for generations to come.

Those who can’t attend the community meeting can share their ideas online.

The public consultation period runs until June 27.
