Residents in small and rural northern B.C. communities are faced with big expenses in getting to the right places for medical care.
A charity organization that provides free flights to Canadians faced with financial burdens and must travel far from home to receive treatment is taking off on a journey in hopes of raising more funds for more patients.
Hope Air’s Give Hope Wings is departing for a 12,000 km expedition across the northwest region of North America, circumnavigating northern B.C., the Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Alaska spanning over three weeks this summer.
These are some of the prime areas Hope Air caters to when getting people the help they need.
“Many of the flights we provide are to patients living in northern and interior B.C. who must travel to Vancouver for specialized care,” explained Hope Air spokesperson Michelle Garcia to PrinceGeorgeMatters. “The flights that Hope Air provides removes the burden of cost and long distance road travel from families facing illness and allows them to focus instead on what is important – their health.”
The aircraft will be captained by volunteer pilots and a flight crew.
The goal is to raise enough awareness and money to provide 1,000 more Canadians with free flights to places where they can get the healthcare access they need to recover.
To kick off the campaign, the Prince George Airport will be hosting a public meet-and-greet and celebration with the crew this Saturday evening (June 15)
