Much like Brooks Koepka defending his PGA Championship title last weekend, a Prince George woman has got some hot irons in her golf bag.
Natasha Kozlowski, member of the Prince George Golf and Curling Club, is currently the top female junior golfer in all of Canada according to the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJT) national rankings.
The 17-year-old competes in the Girls 15-18 Division, the highest age group on the developmental circuit, and has found success on the greens in both B.C. and Alberta in just a three-week span.
From May 19 to 20 at the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Club (Par 71), Kozlowski easily powered through the cold conditions to a commanding 14-stroke victory, shooting an overall low girls score of 151 (73, 78).
She believes her consistency on the course helped her run away from the competition.
“I had built up a lot of momentum from day one because I was hitting all the fairways and most of the greens,” said Kozlowski in a news release.
The win has propelled the Prince George product to the top of the MJT national rankings with 600 accumulated points and scoring an average round of 78.75, which is currently the 10th best in the country in that statistic.
The Banff victory was Kozlowski’s second title in a row as she captured the MJT Ford Series event in Chilliwack (Par 72) by six shots for a two-round total of 164 (80, 84).
“For young golfers like me, the MJT events are a great way to gain tournament experience,” she said in a release following a clutch performance in the Lower Mainland on April 27 and 28.
The back-to-back victories earned Kozlowski 300 points from each tournament.
