New apartments may soon be built on Recplace Drive near Mr. PG.
A proposed development that would see three four-story apartment buildings built in the area, cleared the public hearing process at council’s last regular meeting on Feb. 24.
Seymour Pacific Developments Ltd. for Prince George Golf and Curling Club is requested to rezone 2604, 2626 and 2658 Recplace Dr. for the development.
However, the southern portion of 2626 Recplace Dr. will remain as the PG Playhouse.
“The proposed residential development will complement the existing commercial recreational and institutional uses in the area,” said the city’s general manager of planning, Ian Wells during the public hearing.
A public open house meeting was also held on Nov. 20, 2019, at Van Bien Training Centre on Wilson Crescent to provide surrounding property owners with additional information on the proposed development and the opportunity to provide written comments.
However, administration did not receive any public attendance or written correspondence regarding the application.
There were also no comments from the gallery during the public hearing.
“I think it’s a fantastic example of infill in our community and a great opportunity for us to utilize lands to a better use,” said Coun. Kyle Sampson, after the hearing was closed.
“This is a piece of property that has been vacant for many years, a great location and its exciting to see something like this move forward,” added Mayor Lyn Hall.
Council voted unanimously to approve the third reading of the required OCP and rezoning bylaws. The project will now need council’s final reading and adoption before construction can get underway.
