Throwback Thursday: Week of May 23

Each week, the Citizen brings you a look back at the city's history as told by the paper's photographers.

Parkwood Place, still a busy destination for shoppers, looked very different when it was built nearly 60 years ago.

The plaza at the corner of Victoria Street and 15th Avenue was originally anchored by a Woodwards store.

This aerial photo from the Citizen archives, which ran on May 24, 1966, offers a look at the $3.25-million project under construction.

The Parkwood Theatre at the upper left of the complex was already open when this was taken.

In the background is Prince George Regional Hospital. The top floor, which appears darker in colour, is the new addition completed this year.

Fifteenth Avenue veers off to the left.

The plaza is now home to The Bay, London Drugs, Famous Players 6 Cinemas and numerous other businesses and services.
