A tragic COVID-19 outbreak at University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) in Prince George is now over as of this morning (Feb. 10).
Northern Health says during the outbreak in the Internal Medicine Unit, which was initially declared on Dec. 29, 2020, there was a total of 33 cases among 21 patients and 12 staff who tested positive for the virus.
Sadly, there were nine patients who lost their lives to the virus.
The authority says there have been no new lab-confirmed cases related to the outbreak since Jan. 12.
"Northern Health Public Health continues to actively monitor and follow up all laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 among staff and patients at any NH facilities," a statement reads.
There remain outbreaks at Jubilee Lodge in Prince George (declared Dec. 12, 2020), Acropolis Manor in Prince Rupert (declared Jan. 19, 2021) and Dawson Creek & District Hospital - Medical Inpatient Unit (declared on Feb. 7, 2021).
As of this publication, Northern Health has recorded a total of 3,849 cases with 14 currently hospitalized throughout the region with 10 of those currently in ICU/critical care.
There are 444 active cases while 90 people have lost their lives to the virus.
