Powered by a 2,200-position surge in the number of people holding down jobs, the city's unemployment rate tumbled three percentage points to 9.3 per cent last month, according to labour market survey results from Statistics Canada.
In all, 45,600 people were employed in March which was also compared favourably to the total of 42,200 at the same point last year, when the unemployment rate stood at 9.4 per cent. It was the third straight month of decline after the unemployment rate peaked at 13.6 per cent in December.
