This year's United Way Day of Caring was dedicated to the Phoenix Transition Society.

In a partnership Oct. 16 United Way, Realtors, staff and friends from Team Powerhouse Realty assisted staff of Phoenix Transition Society with projects that made their yard more accessible and safe, said Lori Wolfe of United Way Team Powerhouse Realty.

Projects included providing a gate for wheelchair access to the yard, repairing gates and fence panels and tidying the yard for winter, said Wolfe.

Tony's Stump Grinding's bobcat and auger drilled the holes for the new fence posts and CHM Underground Utilities donated a speedy assessment of the utilities on site, so we could have a safe project, Wolfe said.

"A Day of Caring is a unique opportunity for a company, organization or group to work in the community to help a non-profit agency complete a needed project or hold a special event.

"Projects are typically one- to two-day tasks and can be anything, from building a playground, painting a fence, planting a garden or cleaning up.

"For a modest investment in staff time and materials, the volunteer group makes a visible and valuable contribution to the community. It's a win-win for everyone. Volunteers have the opportunity to experience the joy of doing something for others, and local non-profit agencies receive valuable volunteer assistance to complete projects that might otherwise not get done," said Wolfe.
