Highway 97 north of McLeod Lake was closed in both directions after a fiery crash that killed one of the drivers Tuesday.

An update from DriveBC Wednesday morning indicated the highway was down to alternating single-lane traffic and was expected to fully reopen at about 4 p.m.

The collision, which saw a tractor-trailer burst into flames after it was involved in a collision with a pickup truck, happened about two hours north of Prince George and 24 kilometres south of Pine Pass Summit near Honeymoon Creek, between Kennedy Road and Azu Sub Road.

Prince George North District RCMP spokesperson Madonna Saunderson confirmed the driver of the pickup died in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi driver received non life-threatening injuries.

Motorists at the scene shared details on Facebook, saying they were stuck for several hours while the investigation was carried out.
