After receiving multiple reports of early-morning burglaries and thefts from vehicles in downtown Prince George between Monday, Sept. 2 and Wednesday, Sept. 4, RCMP turned to surveillance video.

Officers from the Downtown Safety Unit and Problem Oriented Policing Team soon identified a suspect. Allan Douglas Nigh, 43, of Prince George was arrested.

"The key to tying these investigations together was the video surveillance that was quickly made available to our investigators," stated Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, the local detachment's media relations officer. "All of the incidents occurred in the very early hours of the morning, when there are no witnesses around. When businesses and residents can have video surveillance to our investigators within hours of an event occurring, it greatly increases the chances of us identifying and locating a suspect."

Charges against Nigh have been approved: Three counts of breaking and entering with the intent to commit an indictable offence and three counts of mischief under $5,000.

Nigh, who the RCMP notes is well-known to police, will remain in custody until his next court appearance. The case is still under investigation.
