Operation Red Nose is recruiting volunteers Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Atrium at the College of New Caledonia.
The service, organized by the Nechako Rotary Club in partnership with the RCMP and ICBC, offers free rides home to party-goers and their vehicles.
Last year 796 rides were given during nine nights of service, which is a 290-ride increase from 2008.
About 300 volunteers are needed and must be at least 19 years old and have a valid driver's licence. There is also a criminal record check done on the spot at no cost. to the volunteer.
Operation Red Nose is in its 13th season and organizers expect a greater use of the service since more strict drinking and driving laws came into effect Sept. 20.
Volunteers are needed to drive, navigate and operate phones and on average about 15 teams of three people will be on call for each night of service from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Operation Red Nose service will be available Nov. 26, 27, Dec. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18 and New Year's Eve.
