The BC RCMP North District Major Crime Unit is looking for a murder suspect after a man was found dead in Mackenzie early Sunday morning.

Mackenzie RCMP were called to a home on the 100 block of Centennial Drive after receiving a report of shots being fired. Officers found a man's body inside the house. The death appears to be an isolated incident and investigators do not believe there is any potential danger to the public.

The major crime unit is running the investigation with the Mackenzie RCMP and the BC Coroners Service.

On Tuesday, the BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of second-degree murder against a suspect in the case, and a warrant was issued for the arrest of Drake Matthew Kerr of Mackenzie.

Mackenzie residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area for the next several days while the investigation continues, police advise.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have information about the incident, including security video footage of the area.

Anyone with information about Kerr is asked to call Mackenzie RCMP at 250-997-3288.
