A wildland interface fire four kilometres east of McBride in the Teare Creek area is now listed as being held by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

Crews have made significant progress in the past 48 hours on the Teare Creek wildfire. This means that the fire is not expected to grow beyond existing containment lines under the current conditions. Due to the progress made by crews, all evacuation orders and alerts have been rescinded.

On Thursday, May 4 the fire has prompted the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (RDFFG) to issue an evacuation order for a couple of properties along Laing Road and an evacuation alert for eight properties in the Teare Creek area.

Crews continue to conduct mop up operations as well as Danger Tree Assessing and Falling in active fire areas. BCWS reminds the public that the Teare Creek wildfire is still an active wildfire and a BCWS worksite.

Public interference on active fire worksites has a direct impact on the effectiveness of fire suppression activities and pose safety risks both to the public and to responders who are working to contain these fires. In order for wildfire suppression activities to continue safely and effectively, the public must stay out of active fire areas.

BCWS notes although there has been significant onsite precipitation, hot and dry conditions well above seasonal are possible based on the long-range forecast. Fire activity and onsite conditions can change rapidly, especially if hot and dry conditions return.

The Prince George Fire Centre is also currently responding to multiple incidents across the fire centre, including four Wildfires of Note.

Three of the Wildfires of Note; Coffee Creek, Red Creek and Boundary Lake, are in the Peace Region.

The Coffee Creek fire is listed as being held, but Boundary Lake and Red Creek are still listed as out of control.

An evacuation alert was issued for Doig River First Nation, prompting residents to be ready to leave on short notice.

The are currently 64 active wildfires in the province.

Full incident details and updates are available on the BC Wildfire Service dashboard as they are published.

Updates are also available by calling the BC Wildfire Service Fire Information Line at 1-888-336-7378 (1-888-3FOREST). Updates are pre-recorded and updated as significant changes occur.

Residents can find more information on the current situation across the province through Emergency Info BC and information on planning for emergencies at Prepared BC.
