Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the Prince George area for Friday, Sept. 27.
Damage is possible, the weather agency reports.
"An intense low-pressure system will cross northern BC today," the advisory states. "Moderate to strong southeast winds ahead of this system are expected to continue early this morning. As the storm moves inland today, a period of very strong westerly winds will develop in its wake."
The warning applies to the City of Prince George as well as the Lakes District, Chilcotin, Stuart-Nechako, McGregor, Williston and the B.C. South Peace River.
Expect westerly winds of 70 kilometres per hour gusting up to 90 kilometres per hour.
"Very strong wind gusts and moist soil conditions could lead to broken tree branches or tree falls," Environment Canada warns. "Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches. Motorists, especially in high profile vehicles, may expect hazardous driving conditions on highways subject to strong cross winds."
The Prince George Fire Centre issued an advisory Monday reminding the public, recreationalists and hunters to take wind and weather conditions into account before using open fire or entering areas impacted by wildfire as conditions are dynamic and may change rapidly.
Significant safety hazards include compromised danger trees, which together with the elevated winds, have an increased chance of falling due to weak root structures.
Friday's high is expected to be 14 C. Winds are forecast to shift to the southwest at 30 kilometres per hour, gusting to 50 kilometres per hour, with a low of -1 C, feeling like -7 C with the wind chill overnight. Expect patchy frost.
For Saturday, look for clear skies in the morning with some clouds in the afternoon and a high of 12C after a wind chill of about -3C in the morning. Saturday's overnight low will be -3C.
On Sunday, Prince George will see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 10C and a low of -3C.
