Three teams from Black Diamond Lanes gave glittering performances at the Youth Bowling Council zone championships on the weekend. Now, they'll get the chance to do the same in the provincial spotlight.
Black Diamond teams that rolled to zone gold and qualified for provincials, March 5 in Kamloops, were the bantam girls, junior girls and senior girls.
At zones, in Williams Lake, the Black Diamond bantams posted a four-game total of 2,070 and finished 99 pins ahead of second-place Hypertension Escape of Dawson Creek. Black Diamond team members are Kiara Browne, Morgen Poitras, Jocelyn Meise and Jesslyn Arnett. They are coached by Chito Tecson.
Meanwhile, the Black Diamond juniors were dominant on the lanes. The team, formed by Tiana Tecson, Lezzyl Aquino, Jenny Browne, Kassidy Johnson and coach Leo Durau, finished with a score of 3,270, a whopping 466 pins in front of the second-place Cariboo Bowl squad. The Black Diamond crew will enter provincials as defending champions.
In the senior division, Black Diamond bowlers Deanna Montgomery, Natasha Oelke, Danielle Chretien and Jessica Hahn finished with a total of 3,122, which put them 162 pins ahead of runner-up Hypertension Escape. The Black Diamond seniors -- who competed on their home lanes -- are coached by Al Smith.
In other girls results from zones, the bantams from Nechako Lanes finished fifth out of six teams in Williams Lake.
In boys results, the Black Diamond combo team of Alex Webber, Keenan Horwath and Aidan Burns rolled to a bronze medal at Black Diamond.
Also in boys competition, the Nechako Lanes bantams placed sixth in a field of seven and the Nechako juniors were eighth out of eight. Both were playing in Quesnel.
In singles competition, zones were held earlier this season. Bowlers moving on to provincials are Darci Shelke (Black Diamond, senior girls), Jeff Strong (Black Diamond, junior boys) and Paige Meise (Nechako Lanes, junior girls).
