The Cariboo Cougars hit the ice in Kin 1 this weekend for a double header against the Kootenay Ice. With the regular season wrapping up on March 1, the Cougars were looking for gain valuable points to boost themselves up the standings.
Saturday evening saw the Cats double up the Ice by a score of 4-2. Fischer O'Brien scored a pair of goals for Cariboo while John Herrignton and Brennan Bott rounded out the scoring. Noah Quinn and Ethan Smyth were the goal scorers for Kootenay. Kenny Gerow got the start in net for the Cats and turned aside 13 of the 15 shots he faced. Colton Phillips-Watts got the nod in net for the Ice and stopped 33 of 37 shots he faced.
Sunday morning saw the Cougars once again double up the Ice, this time by a score of 6-3. Carter Yarish picked up the hattrick with Brennan Bott potting a pair. Landon Ingham also scored for the Cats in the win. Kaleb Percival scored two for Kootenay with Kjell Osborne also scoring for the Ice. Kenny Gerow started between the pipes for the Cougars and earned the win turning aside 20 of the 23 shots he faced. Carsten Shrimpton got the call for the Ice and turned aside 35 of the 41 shots he faced.
With the wins the Cougars now have 50 points and sit in a tie for 4th with the Vancouver North East Chiefs and are two points back of the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds and Vancouver North West Hawks who have 52 points. The Okanagan Rockets top the standings with 63 points.
The Cariboo Cougars have two weekends remaining in the regular season and both will be played at home in Kin 1. The Cougars will take on the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds on Saturday, February 22 and Sunday, February 23. Cariboo will then wrap its regular season up with a pair of games against the North Island Silvertips on Saturday, February 29 and Sunday, March 1. Puck drop will be at 4:30 p.m. for the Saturday games, and 10:30 a.m. for the Sunday match-ups.
