Cougars put a couple Tigers in their tank

Team acquires two forwards from the Medicine Hat Tigers in three-way trade deal

The Prince George Cougars added a pair of new forwards to their lineup, in a three-team deal announced on Tuesday.

The Cougars acquired Cayden Glover and Carlin Dezainde from the Medicine Hat Tigers in a three-way deal involving the Saskatoon Blades. In addition, the Cats picked up a second-round pick from the Tigers and a third-round pick from the Blades for the 2023 draft, and a seventh-round pick in the 2025 draft from the Blades.

In exchange, the Cougars traded forward Kyren Gronik to the Blades and a 2025 fifth-round draft pick to the Tigers.

“We see both Cayden and Carlin as good fits to our young group of forwards,” Cougars’ general manager and head coach Mark Lamb said in a press release. “We feel both have plenty of upside and we look forward to adding them into our line up.”

Glover, who hails from Brandon, Man., had five points (three goals, two assists) in 15 games with the Tigers this season.

“Glover is a physically strong player with offensive upside. He has a great shot and has a track record of scoring at lower levels,” Cougars director of scouting Bob Simmonds said in a press release.

Dezainde, originally from Calgary, had two assists in 21 games for the Tigers this season.

“Dezainde is an excellent skater who brings a lot of versatility. He plays with energy and pace and still has a lot of untapped potential,” Simmonds said.

Glover will wear No.14 and Dezainde will wear No. 19 when the pair join the team this week.

The Cougars open a mid-week doubleheader against the Everett Silvertips at CN Cente on Tuesday night.
