Prince George biathlete Moira Green knocked it out of the park.
The 20-year-old Caledonia Nordic Ski Club member, competing in her first IBU Cup mass start 60 race, was deadly accurate on the shooting range in Saturday race in Ridnaun-Val Ridanna, Italy and hit 18 of 20 targets.
Green also has plenty of ski speed working for her to finish 28th out of 58 in the race.
She crossed the finish 2:18.9 off the winning pace of 33 minutes 47.1 seconds, set by Sophie Chaveau of France (2+0+0+0).
It capped an impressive weekend for Green, in her final racing tuneup before she tackles the IBU junior world championships Feb. 23-March 5 in Oestersund, Sweden. Green won all three races at the Canadian world junior trials a month ago in Prince George.
Green qualified for the mass start based on her 50th-place result in Wednesday’s sprint. She placed 40th in the pursuit on Friday.
In other Canadian results from the women’s 12 km mass start 60 race, Janice Grundahl of Regina was 38th (+3:34.3, 0+0+1+0) and Benita Peiffer of Whistler was 39th (+3:51.1, 3+0+0+1).
Emily Dickson of Burns Lake was wiped out by a flu bug that led to a 72nd-place finish in the sprint.
There were no Canadians who qualified for the men’s 15 km mass start 60 event Saturday, won by Johannes Dale-Skjevdal of Norway (36:52.0, 2+0+1+0).
