Brady Harper's last-second 29-yard field goal lifted the Prince George Kodiaks to a 17-15 win over the Vancouver Island Raiders Saturday in Nanaimo.

Brady Harper’s boot with no time left on the clock made for a happy bus ride home for the Prince George Kodiaks.

From 29 yards out the Kodiaks placekicker kicked a field goal that glanced off the goalpost as it sailed through the uprights to seal a 17-15 B.C. Football Conference victory over the Vancouver Island Raiders Saturday in Nanaimo.

It was the second-straight win for the Kodiaks and that improved their record to 2-2 and they moved into fifth place in the seven-team conference.

“(2-2), that’s a realistic goal after the first four games,” said Kodiaks head coach Jamie Boreham. “It puts us in a spot to control getting into the playoffs. The next three games will determine a lot of that.”

The Prince George passing game, which struggled to complete plays most of the game, finally found its stride and that led to the winning drive. Quarterback Sam Sabine connected twice with receiver Kalye Cowley and a pass interference call on Kaden Wagner put the ball deep into Raider territory to set up Harper’s kick.

Quinn Neukomm started at quarterback for the Kodiaks and was replaced by Sabine midway through the second quarter.

The Raiders’ ground game, led by Xander Shane (11 carries for 111 yards) and Makahaya Williams (15 carries for 126 yards) provided enough offence to keep Prince George within striking range of the Raiders.

The Kodiaks have this weekend off and then will head to Langley to take on the fourth-place Rams (2-1) on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The next home game for the Kodiaks at Masich Place Stadium is on Saturday, Sept. 16 when they host the Rams.
