The Prince George Spruce Kings did their part, beating the Coquitlam Express 3-2 Friday night on the BCHL road in Langley.
Unfortunately for the Spruce Kings, the Langley Rivermen also won on the road, a 5-3 decision over the Blackfalds Bulldogs, which keeps the Rivermen four points ahead of the Spruce Kings in the race for the last Coastal Conference playoff spot.
Nick Metelkin, Will Moore and Brock Cummings scored for the Kings, who led 3-0 until late in the game, when Cam Russo and Andrej Kovacevic scored on Prince George goalie Charles-Edward Gravel.
Gravel made 30 saves while Andrew Ness stopped 29 as the teams ended up even in shots at 32 apiece.
The Spruce Kings will take on the first-place Chilliwack Chiefs (34-12-5-0) on Saturday (6 p.m), then head to Surrey for a Sunday afternoon game (3 p.m.) against the second-place Eagles (29-17-5-0).
Rivermen goalie Dylan Johnson, who played five games this season for the Spruce Kings, stopped 39 of 42 shots to earn the win Friday in Blackfalds.
Ben Portner led the way for Langley with two goals.
The Rivermen (20-22-8-1) play Saturday in Spruce Grove against the Saints and will finish their schedule at home next weekend against Coquitlam and Chilliwack.
The Spruce Kings will be home at Kopar Memorial Arena next Saturday and Sunday (March 29-30) against Powell River.
