One new case of COVID-19 was reported in the Northern Health region on Friday.

The total number of cases in the north rose to 107 on Friday, according to a joint statement issued by provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix on Friday afternoon;

"Today, we are announcing 84 new cases, for a total of 4,358 cases in British Columbia. This includes two cases that are epidemiologically linked," the statement said. "There are 629 active cases of COVID-19 in the province and 3,533 people who tested positive have recovered. Currently, 12 individuals are hospitalized with COVID-19, four of whom are in intensive care."

Public health officials are monitoring 2,026 people who have been exposed to a known case of the disease.

"There have been no new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 196 deaths in British Columbia. We offer our condolences to everyone who has lost their loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic," the statement said. "There has been one new health-care facility outbreak in the Fraser Health region at Queen's Park Care Centre. In total, seven long-term care or assisted-living facilities and two acute-care facilities have active outbreaks."

There were no new community outbreaks. In a statement issued by Northern Health, the health authority is continuing to monitor the outbreak on Haida Gwaii, first declared on July 24.

"To date, there have been a total of 26 lab-confirmed cases related to the outbreak; as of today, all but one of the cases are now considered recovered," a statement released by Northern Health of Friday said. "Northern Health public health staff continue to follow up with the remaining active case, and four close contacts, who continue to self-isolate at home and monitor for symptoms."

According to data released by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control on Friday, there were 16 active cases in the Northern Health region, and none of those people were hospitalized.

Henry and Dix urged residents to do their part to stop the rising number of new cases of COVID-19.

"This weekend, let's all do our part to bend the curve back down and use our influence to bring our family and friends on board if they have strayed," the statement said. "Remember that each new interaction outside your bubble holds a risk that you then bring back to your family and friends. In these circumstances, we must stand together, by staying apart."
