Hudson's Hope RCMP made an unexpected find in form of a caged bear cub while the process of arresting a man last week.

Police said Justin Marshall Thibault, 25, will also be answering to charges under the Wildlife Act in addition to a "laundry list" of criminal charges after they attended his Ferrell Creek home on June 9 to arrest him on suspicion of dangerous driving and theft.

Not only did they find thousands of dollars worth of allegedly stolen property but the cub. BC Conservation Service retrieved the animal and it was transported to a wildlife sanctuary, RCMP said.

Seven allegedly stolen vehicles including pickup trucks, ATV's and motorcycles, a number of illegally stored and allegedly stolen firearms along with tools and medical gear were among the addition items seized, RCMP said.

Crown counsel has approved eight criminal charges against Thibault while charges under the Wildlife Act remain pending and the accused remained in custody as of Tuesday.

A 29-year-old woman was also arrested and later released with a future court date.

Thibault also continues to face three counts related to allegedly hunting at night on farmland without permission from a November 2017 incident.
