Omar Khadr was a 15 year old boy, loaned-out by his father as a translator in Afghanistan, when he was grievously injured in an American bombing raid.
He was then illegally held in Guantanamo prison for 10 years, where he was degraded, humiliated, physically and psychologically tortured. Omar was treated like an animal, chained to the floor of a cage-like cell and made to roll in his urine. His medical care in Guantanamo was inadequate and, despite severe eye injuries, Canada would not even buy him sunglasses to protect what was left of his eyesight.
Canada did nothing to stop the horrendous treatment of a boy and a Canadian citizen. We were the only western country that did not request the return of one of its citizens, a mere child, from Guantanamo prison.
Mr. Harper, yet again, you make me ashamed to be Canadian.

First and foremost, Omar Khadr was a child and, yes, he was a victim.
Thank you Dennis Edney and Nathan Whitling, Omar's unpaid lawyers, who defended him while the Canadian government allowed the violation of his human rights.
