In regards to the article that Neil Godbout wrote about Kelly Road school and the need for a name change.
Really, I totally disagree with your idea of naming the school. As far as I am concerned, the name should stay the same as it represents the area and many years of Kelly Road Proud. I will always be proud of the school that I went to for 10 years and the area that it represents, by its name.
You should do your homework a little better when chastising the name. Yes, the present school sits off Handlen Road, but if you had checked into it you would have discovered the first Kelly Road school was built facing and accessible from Kelly Road.
The first building was a little four-room school that I went to for grades one and two. Then by Grade 3, the big "new" school had been built and we moved into it, using the old school as a library for a while.
Naming a school after someone who is somewhat known in Prince George does nothing to represent the school itself. Naming a school for the area it is in represents the community.
You know at the mention of the name where approximately the school would be located and gives the kids going to that school pride in representing their community during games.
Of all the people that you mentioned, I don't recall any attending Kelly Road. The only person that I am aware of who even had their children attend Kelly Road is Shirley Gratton.
Maybe the school should be named after my brother and myself as we both attended Kelly Road for 10 years right from the start.
