Imagination on the Move, the Two Rivers Gallery's regional outreach program to schools, has wrapped up for the summer.

Within the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George two Regional Outreach co-ordinators’ (Lela Theissen and Olivia MacDonald) travelled to eight schools (Blackburn Elementary, Buckhorn Elementary, McBride Centennial, Nukko Lake Elementary, Valemount Elementary, Morfee Elementary, and Giscome Elementary) and presented this year's art project to approximately 1,000 students during the five-week outreach program.

This year's project medium was chalk pastels. The students were taught various drawing techniques and tricks for using the pastels, such as blending, layering, 3-D shapes, shading, and highlighting. The outreacher coordinators lesson plan centred around the pre-visit kits which were sent out to each school/classroom in advance which included the book Maybe Something Beautiful, a book written by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell, and illustrated by Rafael López.

A teacher from Nukko Lake commented: “The facilitators did a lovely job. [...] It’s a fun, easy way to incorporate chalk pastels in our classroom. The kids had a lot of fun getting messy with chalk and it was tasks that were age/grade appropriate. They had a lot of fun.”
