The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is investigating a crash that happened Monday, Feb. 24 in Prince George.
RCMP attempted to stop a red Chevrolet pickup truck near 10th Avenue and Irwin Street around 10:20 p.m.
The driver of the truck allegedly fled from police and was later involved in a collision with another vehicle near 15th Avenue and Highway 97.
Police arrested the truck's driver at the scene.
The paramedic service provided an update Tuesday afternoon.
“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 10:41 p.m. regarding a motor vehicle incident at Highway 97 and 15th Avenue in Prince George," said paramedic public information officer Brian Twaites. "Two ambulances with primary care paramedics, one ambulance with advanced care paramedics, and one paramedic supervisor responded to the scene. Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment to three patients, who were transported to hospital in stable condition.”
The IIO, a civilian agency that investigates incidents involving police that result in serious injury or death, was notified of the incident shortly after it occurred and has since launched an investigation.
Initial investigative steps will focus on determining the extent of police involvement and whether that involvement may have played a role in the injuries of the two people hit by the truck, the IIO states.
The IIO is asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has video footage to contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
