Asia Pacific Twinning Program Jiangmen Delegation - Council Contingent:
Council has authorized a delegation to travel to Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, China, in September to meet with officials representing the government, education, tourism, and business sectors. The delegation will observe, learn and gather information to allow us to assess alignment between Jiangmen and Prince George regarding objectives and opportunities for twinning, and to extend an invitation for an inbound delegation from Jiangmen in 2011 for the purpose of establishing a twinning agreement with the City of Prince George.
Council's contingent of the delegation will consist of the Mayor and two Councillors appointed by the Mayor. Mayor Rogers appointed Councillors Bassermann and Frizzell to participate in the delegation, with Councillor Stolz as an alternate.
Prince George Downtown Business Improvement Association Budget:
Council approved the Prince George Downtown Business Improvement Association 2010 Budget. The Prince George Downtown Business Improvement local service tax is funded by the 486 properties which fall within the local area service boundary.
Free Public Transit Day - August 9, 2010:
Council approved that August 9, 2010 be designated a free transit day throughout the City to promote the 2015 Canada Winter Games Bid site tour. Making transit free on August 9th, 2010 in support of the Canada Winter Games Bid will assist with reducing vehicle congestion and increase safety for pedestrians.
As part of the 2015 Canada Winter Games bidding process a Bid Evaluation Committee will arrive in Prince George on August 9th - Games Day. To support the bid to host the 2015 Canada Winter Games the Prince George Bid Committee is encouraging all residents to show their support by participating in scheduled events on that day. Details around these events will be available in the coming week.
Monthly Building and Development Permits:
83 building permits representing $21,877,245.40 were issued in June 2010. This is an increase from June 2009, where 70 permits were issued at a total value of $9,579,261. Significant building permits issued in June 2010 include:
