In a rare all-acoustic appearance, the public can enjoy a free concert by celebrated singer-songwriter Marcel Gagnon.

The Lheidli T'enneh First Nation elder is an Aboriginal Music Award winner, a Juno Award nominee and a national music figure for albums like Crazy Maker, The Watchman-Tom Crow, Captured, and the special edition album New Year's Day recorded by the CBC with each original Gagnon song composed with the residential school atrocity as its core theme.

Gagnon will be in the spotlight at the Friday Night Mics concert series at Books & Company. Organizers called his inclusion "a special treat" that would give audiences an intimate experience with a culturally important musician and social spokesperson.

"Marcel is a community favourite and always puts on an amazing, engaging show - we can't wait to see you here," said concert organizers.

The show takes place in the bookstore's Cafe Voltaire space on Friday starting at 7 p.m.
