Hundreds of Prince George residents came together this weekend for 24 hours of fighting back against cancer.
Altogether, the 27th annual Prince George Relay for Life concluded this morning (June 9) raising $325,000 dollars.
More than 90 teams registered for the event, and nearly 20 individuals committed to walking the entire 24 hours.
“It’s time to reflect on the fun you’ve had, the connections you’ve made, the emotions you’ve faced,” said MC Ron Polillio, after the participants took their last lap around the track at the CN Centre.
“Once again Prince George you’ve proven why we live in such a great community and are a force to be reckoned with.”

The final amount raised as the relay concluded around 10 a.m. was $325,000 with money still rolling in from fundraising until the end of the summer.
“Big thank you to our sponsors, our participants and our survivors,” said Relay for Life coordinator Aimee Cassie. “You’re why we are here. Thank you so much for believing in relay. Thank you for being the heart and soul of this event.”
This year’s event also concluded with the giveaway of one of two cars from Northland Auto Group.
Anyone who fundraised over $500 dollars was eligible to win a car and pick between a 2019 Nissan Micra or a 2019 Hyundai Elantra.

The winner was Levi London from Team PWC. Although he wasn’t present when his name was drawn he will get to choose between the two vehicles.
“I couldn’t be more proud about what we were able to do,” said event coordinator Riley Newman. “We turned a place that was a vibrant grey into a sea of colours and most importantly hope.”
Planning for Prince George Relay for Life 2020 will begin in September.
