A career day came Friday (March 29) for a Prince George skier.
Gavin Rowell raced down the mountains of Austria in the World Junior Ski Cross Championships to a silver medal finish in the men's finale.
Representing Team Canada, the 19-year-old Kelly Road Secondary graduate lost out on the top of the podium by a few ski lengths behind Sweden's David Mobaerg and several clicks ahead of Australia's Douglas Crawford, who settled for the bronze.
The event is put on by the Federation of International Skiing (FIS).
There were a total of 65 competitors, including three other Canadians.
Rowell, a former member of the Prince George Alpine Ski Club, finished first in his first heat, and second in the next three races, including the Big Final.
He is currently listed as a Development Athlete within Alpine Canada.
