A prominent presence on Prince George basketball courts is cordially committing to playing in B.C.’s lower mainland to kickstart her collegiate career.
Nina Gajic will stay in a green, white and black jersey next year, but this time as a member of the Douglas College Royals (New Westminster) for the 2021 season.
The PGSS graduate posted a combined 37 points in four games at the 2020 B.C. AAAA Girls’ Championships in Langley.
This included 12 points in her last game as a senior with the Polars.
“I really liked the programs [Douglas College] offered,” said Gajic in a team release, “as well as it seems like a good opportunity for me as a player and student to excel as being a student-athlete.”
The five-foot-seven guard put up a team-high 14 points in this year’s city championship final against Duchess Park, claiming an all-star selection for her efforts in the playoffs.
When asked about her goals for next year, Gajic simply said, “to improve myself as a player and to make new friendships, have fun and win!”
Gajic’s rookie season will look a little different, however, as the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) made the decision to cancel the Fall semester of sports as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
According to the CCAA, if winter sports are given the green light to play, a season would begin in January 2021.
Douglas College competes in PACWEST, a seven-team B.C.-based conference playing a step below Canada West and U-Sports.
The Royals landed in third place during the 2019-20 regular-season with a record of 11-7.
Gajic is the second PGSS product to sign with a PACWEST school next year after teammate Julia Kreitz committed to Okanagan College.
