A suspect believed to be involved in two Saturday (Jan. 18) shoplifting cases has been remanded in custody by Prince George RCMP, thanks to help from the public.
Jordan Neil Shaw was held down by local residents near Highway 16 and Range Road after he was found in possession of stolen clothes from a retail store just two blocks away.
Police later confirmed the items were taken from the Walls Avenue business and arrested Shaw, confirming earlier that day he had also fled from a Prince George jewellery store after pulling out what appeared to be a handgun, robbed the business and then fled on foot, all while acting alone.
That was before 10:30 a.m. in the 1600-block, 15th Ave., three hours before the 25-year-old’s arrest, which took place without further incident.
Shaw has been charged with the following, all approved by the BC Prosecution Service:
- Robbery
- Using an imitation firearm while committing an indictable offence
- Disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace (Two counts)
- Failing to comply with probation (Four counts)
- Theft under $5,000
- Carrying a concealed weapon
A Police Dog Services team was also used in the search for Shaw.
Mounties initially tracked his whereabouts to a 17th Avenue home known to police, but no one was inside at the time of arrival.
Shaw is scheduled to appear in court later today (Jan. 20).
