A deja vu occurrence for Prince George firefighters took place last night (Oct. 23) when they responded to a cooking incident that caused a fire for a second consecutive night.
As a result, more tenants were transported to hospital and this time, three are being checked for minor smoke inhalation after a pot of cooking oil on a stovetop sparked an ‘accidental’ blaze at a Heritage-area home.
At around 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Prince George Fire Rescue found light smoke coming out of the basement suite of a structure on 4400-block, Bauch Ave.
Everybody inside the building evacuated before crews arrived.
Fifteen firefighters from three different halls quickly extinguished the flames, leaving most of the damaged contained to the kitchen.
The estimated damage, according to a Fire Rescue release, is $50,000 and there were no reported injuries to personnel.
On Tuesday evening (Oct. 22), a similar fire took place where a cooking incident accidentally caused a blaze at a multi-unit complex on Irwin Street.
Tenants from that building were also treated in hospital for smoke inhalation, but the damage was worse at an estimated $100,000.
