Serious injuries updated: MVI with house

Lack of seatbelts is a factor in the serious injuries to a pair of people involved in a major collision Sunday.

A vehicle occupied by a 56-year-old male driver and a 25-year-old female passenger struck a house in the 3000 block of Frontage Road (which runs parallel to the Hart Highway) at about 11:30 a.m.

The cause of the car's loss of control is still under investigation, said Prince George RCMP spokesman Gary Godwin. "At this juncture, speed and alcohol do not appear to be causal factors," he added.

The damage done to the 1990 Ford Probe was not such that major injuries should have been expected, said contacts close to the investigation, but neither was belted in.

"The female passenger was critically hurt and flown to Vancouver where she is now in stable condition," Godwin said. "The driver was seriously hurt and is still in University Hospital of Northern B.C."

The residence, a double-wide trailer home, was inflicted with about $75,000. At least one home occupant was shaken up by the impact which jarred the building off its foundation.
