Environment Canada has issued a special air quality bulletin Tuesday afternoon for much of the province in response to wildfire smoke.

Prince George and area is included in the bulletin that leaves out only Vancouver Island and the southeast and northwest portions of B.C.

The regions listed "are being impacted or are likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke over the next 24-48 hours," Environment Canada said in the bulletin, issued shortly before 2 p.m..

"Wildfire smoke is a natural part of our environment but it is important to be mindful that exposure to smoke may affect your health. "People with pre-existing health conditions, respiratory infections such as COVID-19, older adults, pregnant women and infants, children, and sensitive individuals are more likely to experience health effects from smoke exposure." Further advice can be found at www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/air-quality-health-index/wildfire-smoke.html.

Over the weekend, a wildfire at Moberly River west of Chetwynd had flared up to almost 1,200 hectares and was described as "fairly fast moving" and "out of control."

However, a presentation on firesmoke.ca indicates most of the smoke is coming from the south where the Lower Mainland and the Seattle area are getting hit particularly hard.

The smoke is expected to move out of the Prince George area by tonight the website is indicating.
