Surgery needed for Prince George dog found with gunshot wound

BC SPCA asking for more than $3,200 to by for vaccines, follow-up care

An open cruelty investigation is on-going as the BC SPCA in Prince George is tending to a three-year-old dog they found wandering Blackwater Road with a gunshot wound.

Animal control officers provided a live trap as they wanted to help ‘Luna’ after noticing her injuries, most notably missing half of her jaw.

The North Cariboo District Branch successfully trapped the Blackwater Boxer after a week of waiting and now she needs $3,230 to cover x-rays, surgery, medication, vaccines and follow-up.

“Luna had been walking around for days with half of her jaw missing due to a gunshot wound. She immediately went in for emergency reconstructive surgery,” says BC SPCA North Cariboo District animal centre services manager Alex Schare in a release. “Luna is a playful young dog with a remarkable amount of energy despite her injuries and weakened state.”

‘Luna’ will be recovering in a foster home until the money comes in.

More information on how to help is available on the BC SPCA North Cariboo District website.
