A man with a history of dangerous driving and trying to flee police is back in custody after allegedly ramming three RCMP vehicles in a failed attempt to avoid arrest over the weekend.

Brent Jameson Morgan, 31, has been charged with four counts under the Criminal Code in relation to the incident that began shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday when RCMP noticed a vehicle in the 7600-block of Gladstone Drive with an expired licence plate and linked to a "known offender, who has ties to the illicit drug trade."

Police said the driver did not stop when RCMP attempted to pull the vehicle over. It was located a second time, on Simon Fraser Avenue, but the driver once again refused to pull over and struck an RCMP vehicle as it fled the area, according to police.

It was found a third time in a cul-de-sac in the 8000-block of St. John Place, where an unoccupied police vehicle was struck hard enough to set off the airbags and nearly push it into a nearby officer, RCMP said. As well, an additional police vehicle was struck as the driver left the scene.

From there, RCMP deployed a spike belt on Domano Boulevard and the suspect vehicle came to a stop on Moriarty Drive.

Angeline Hammerstrom, 42, was also arrested and subsequently charged with breaching a release order.

Morgan remained in custody as of Monday while Hammerstrom was released.

None of the RCMP officers involved were seriously injured but damage to the vehicles was described as extensive.

In May 2020, Morgan was sentenced to a further 731 days in jail for dangerous driving and possessing a restricted or prohibited weapon after he was found in April 2019 behind the wheel of a stolen pickup truck stockpiled with an assortment of weapons. He had been in custody for 390 days prior to sentencing.
