The threat of the Nechako River bursting its banks has forced the closure of the Heritage River trail between Kiwanis Park and the Cameron Street Bridge.
"City staff have observed that the river level is now parallel with the bank and the city is advising residents to avoid the path," city hall said Thursday.
An ice jam stretching back two kilometres near the confluence with the Fraser has emerged with the ongoing cold snap.
