Prince George’s best judokas got the chance to pin themselves against the rest of the province this past weekend.
The Prince George and Hart Judo academies had a strong showing in Kamloops at the 2020 B.C. Youth Championships and Senior Ne Waza, sending a total of 36 athletes and returning home with 31 medals, including five golds.
This includes veteran Tami Goto, who landed 20 points and a 2-1 record in the women’s Under-21, -52 kg weight-class.
The 18-year-old nabbed the gold medal after beating Abbotsford’s Launa Hinton in her final bout.
Fellow Prince George Judo Club gold medalist Lily McCullough claimed first in her Under-14 division in the +63kg class, while also grabbing a silver in the same category for Under-16s.
Hart Judo Academy’s Maxwell Young also excelled in his Under-21 category, going 3-0 in the -60kg class to take home gold.
Two other Hart members that won gold were Asher Young (Under-18, -55kg) and Aria Greenwood (Under-14, -57kg).
