UNBC to host all-candidates forums for federal election

Cariboo-Prince George's forum will be held on Tuesday, April 22 and Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies on Wednesday, April 23

The University of Northern British Columbia will be hosting all-candidates forums for Cariboo-Prince George on Tuesday, April 22 and for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies on Wednesday, April 23.

The University of Northern BC is getting ready to host all-candidates forums for both Prince George-area ridings next week as part of the lead-up to the April 28 federal election.

The forum for Cariboo-Prince George is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. while the forum for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 23 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Both forums will be held in the Winter Garden, but those who can’t attend in person can also participate online using Zoom.

The link for the Zoom event will be shared on the events page on the university’s website.

Currently, the university’s event page does not show which candidates have committed to attending the forums.

However, running in Cariboo-Prince George are:

  • Angie Bonazzo (New Democratic Party)
  • Jodie Capling (Green Party of Canada)
  • Todd Doherty (Conservative Party of Canada, incumbent)
  • Clinton Emslie (Liberal Party of Canada)
  • Rudy Sans (People’s Party of Canada)
  • Kenneth B. Thomson (independent)
  • Jake Wiens (Christian Heritage Party of Canada)

The candidates registered to run in Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies are:

  • Mary Forbes (Green Party of Canada)
  • Cory “Grizz” Longley (New Democratic Party)
  • Peter Njenga (Liberal Party of Canada)
  • David Watson (People’s Party of Canada)
  • Bob Zimmer (Conservative Party of Canada)

Advance voting will be held from Friday, April 18 through Monday, April 21. Residents can also vote in person at any Elections Canada office before Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m.

Those wanting to vote by mail must apply for a ballot by 3 p.m. Pacific time on Tuesday, April 22.
