Triple-knockout playoffs set to take the field next week

Highlights from the Spruce City Men’s Fastball League (SCMFL) from the week ending on Friday (Aug. 28).

Tuesday, Aug. 25

  • 5 - FFR Glass Grays
  • 3 - Falcon Contracting

The Grays handed Falcon Contracting its second loss of the 2020 season thanks to an impressive performance on the hill.

Garrett Caron got the win, while James Haviland cranked a homer to propel the SCMFL rookies to victory.

The Potskins, Nick and Jarrett, each clobbered a home run themselves during the game.

  • 7 - Freshii Hitmen
  • 5 - Sibola Electric Royals

The Hitmen scooped up its fourth win of the year thanks to Zack Edwards at pitcher.

Derian Potskin also put one over the Spruce City Stadium fence against the Royals.

Wednesday, Aug. 26

  • 7 - Sibola Electric Royals
  • 6 - Falcon Camp Services

The Royals bounced back after Tuesday’s setback in a tight contest with Falcon Camp Services.

Norm Linton was solid on the mound and at bat, recording two home runs from the dish.

  • 12 - FFR Glass Grays
  • 2 - Freshii Hitmen

The Grays finished a 2-0 week with a commanding 10-run triumph over the Hitmen.

Thursday, Aug. 27

  • 12 - Falcon Contracting
  • 2 - Sibola Electric Royals

Falcon Contracting matched the Grays-Hitmen score less than 24 hours later in another 10-score runaway for the top team in the SCMFL.

Ryan Howse earned a trip around the bags with one over the fence, while teammate Robbie Antoine pitched a stellar game.

  • 8 - Freshii Hitmen

Tyson Ghostkeeper gave his team the doubleheader victory, also a 10-run score.

Cody Umpherville and Jarrett Potskin each hit a dinger out of the park to complete a 2-1 week.

STANDINGS

  • 11-2 = Falcon Contracting
  • 7-5 = FFR Glass Grays
  • 7-6 = Sibola Electric Royals
  • 4-9 = Falcon Camp Services
  • 4-10 = Freshii Hitmen

There are five regular-season games left before the 2020 playoffs begin.

The postseason tournament will be a triple-knockout format, meaning each team will play at least three games.

Once the final standings are set, Game One will take the field Thursday night (Sept. 3), 8 p.m. at Spruce City Stadium between the bottom two clubs.

The second- and third-ranked squads will face each other the following Tuesday (Sept. 8) at 6:30 p.m. with the loser of Game One playing the top-seeded team afterward at 8 p.m.

The SCMFL Championship final is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
