Highlights from Prince George’s Senior Men’s Baseball League (PGSBL) from the week ending on Friday (May 31).
Tuesday, May 28
- 8 - JRJ Construction Orioles
- 5 - Prince George Surg Med Knights
Nine of the game’s 13 total points were scored in the first inning, including all of the Knights’ five runs and could only manage to get six more players on base for the remainder of the evening.
Orioles’ Centerfielder Craig Langille sent a ball over the left field wall for a home run, which kickstarted his team’s four-run first inning, eventually finishing three-for-four at the plate.
Wednesday, May 29
- 7 - Prince George Surg Med Knights
- 5 - D.O.B Contracting Gladiators
A bounce-back game for the Knights came as a result of a five-run third-inning explosion, including a two-run RBI from Richard French.
Gladiators’ Pitch Joseph JenVenne threw six strikeouts in five innings before calling it a day, while his team committed 11 errors in the contest.
Thursday, May 30
- 8 - Queensway Auto World Red Sox
- 2 - JRJ Construction Orioles
The seventh and last inning Thursday was the difference in the Red Sox’ victory as the Orioles posted two critical misplays that brought in the final four runs.
Sox’ Shortstop and lead-off hitter Matt Knight was fortunate to get on base in three of his four at-bats, all because of errors by the defense.
Friday, May 31
- 6 - Inland Control and Services Tigers
- 4 - D.O.B Contracting Gladiators
The Gladiators remained consistent through the first four innings, scoring one run in each frame and keep the game close, which included a home run in the second inning from Taylor Orser.
On the other side however, the Tigers were able to field smart and catch 11 fly balls, five of which by outfielders Scott Walters and Roel Schliper.
