A forester based in Williams Lake is the new president of the Association of B.C. Forest Professionals.
Mauro Calabrese was named to the position by acclamation during the ABCFP's annual conference in Prince George last week.
Calabrese has more than 20 years of experience in the field, according to an ABCFP press release, beginning as a a heli-attack firefighter
He started with West Fraser Mills Ltd. in 1996 as a harvesting supervisor after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of British Columbia.
He progressed to roles in planning and biology and has been the planning superintendent in Williams Lake for West Fraser for the past two years where he supervises a team of eight forest professionals and geographic information system technicians.
Calabrese has been on the ABCFP Council since 2014.
He takes over from Christopher Stagg, who works for Ministry of Forest Lands and Natural Resource Operations in Prince George.
Two other Prince George foresters are ABCFP council members for the coming year - Trevor Joyce, a strategic planning forester for Sinclar Group Forest Products and Kerri Simmons, a tenures coordinator at Canadian Forest Products.
